AmaWaterways has just announced an innovative partnership with a South American tour operator that will bring luxury river cruises to the Magdalena River in Columbia for the first time.

The new 80-passenger, all-suite, eco-friendly ship will launch in 2023 and offer guests an immersive experience on land and onboard. The new ship is to be named AmaMagdalena and will be built in Columbia.

The 956-mile river starts in the Andes Mountains at the La Magdalena lagoon and empties in the Caribbean Sea. The Magdalena River is known for its biodiversity and provides habitats for several species of fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Columbians that live along this beautiful river rely on these natural resources for fishing and farming.

The new itinerary adds a fourth continent to the selection of cruises offered. Metropolitan Touring, a leading tour operator in the Galapagos Islands and other parts of South America will provide comprehensive experiences. Both AmaWaterways and Metropolitan Touring, are committed to sustainability and conservation.

Two seven-night itineraries will allow guests to experience Colombian culture and cuisine with the option of land excursions before or after the cruise. This itinerary will attract active adventures and kayaking, hiking and bird-watching will be available as well as luxury amenities and a wellness host.

More information to come.
