When in Nürnberg visiting family, I always drop in at at one of the Biergartens or restaurant for lunch or dinner. I like to experience local food when I travel and love Franconian cuisine. I believe, Nürnberg has great restaurants and I believe the eight Michelin-star restaurants (there are 309 in Germany) attest to this.

It is also good to know that many restaurants in Germany are closed on Mondays so check their website. It is also recommended to make reservations at some of the mentioned restaurants.

- Hausbrauerei Altstadthof, Bergstraβe 19 / https://www.hausbrauerei-altstadthof.de/

This pub is located just below the Kaiserburg and offers great beer (try the Nuernberger RotBier) and local specialties like Schaeufele, Rostbratwurst, etc.

- Hütt’n, Bergstraβe 20 / https://www.huettn-nuernberg.de/home/

Just across the street from Hausbrauerei Altstadthof, you find the rustic restaurant Hütt’n. The menu changes daily but classics like pork roast and sausages are always available

- Essigbrätlein, a 2-star Michelin restaurant, Weinmarkt 3, next to St Sebaldus-Kirche

You have to ring the bell to be admitted to this pretty old townhouse. It conceals a small, friendly restaurant that is popular for its intimate atmosphere but perhaps more importantly for Andree Köthes’ and Yves Ollechs’ creative and interesting ‘spice cuisine’, which is quite unique in Germany. No surprise then that Essigbrätlein is often fully booked. The lunchtime menu comprises a four course menu and its evening counterpart, six. This restaurant also offer vegetarian items

- Restauration Kopernikus - Restaurant and Biergarten, Hintere Insel Schütt 34

https://www.restauration-kopernikus.de/

This restaurant is located in the historic centre of Nuremberg in the Krakow Tower offering Franconian specialties and Polish delicacies. Try Saure Zipfel, a Franconian specialty or Bigos a polish stew. In the summer enjoy one of the varieties of Franconian beer in the beautiful beer garden

- Gutman am Dutzendteich, Bayernstraβe 150 / https://www.gutmann-am-dutzendteich.de/

Close to the Documentation Center and Nazi Party Rally Grounds, Gutman’s Biergarten is a great stop for some delicious food and a cold beer. You find lots of tables outside under the old trees and don’t be shy to ask if you can sit with anyone. It is also good to know that the Biergarten, Weizenstube and Saal are barrier free and wheelchair accessible.

- Albrecht-Dürer-Stube, Albrecht-Dürer-Straβe 6 / https://www.albrecht-duerer-stube.de/

Located in a half-timbered house from 1559, this quaint restaurant offers Franconian specialties. The menu changes weekly/monthly depending on supply and season.

- Elke’s Bierstadl im Kettensteg, Maxplatz 35 / https://www.elkes-bierstadl.de/

Located at the foot of the castle, this restaurant offers Franconian specialties but also steaks and different kinds of Schnitzel. Try the Gröstl, a mixture of leftover beef, potatoes, bacon and herbs.

If you are interested in French cuisine, Le Virage, Helmstraβe 19 offers three and four-course menu that changes weekly in an elegant setting. This restaurant is located outside the Old City
