In Germany's most northern state, Schleswig Holstein, you find cities, small towns and villages and many lakes, rivers and islands. Denmark lies to the North, the North Sea to the West and the Baltic Sea to the East. On its Southern border you find the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The west coast is dotted with the Northern Frisian Islands like Foehr, Amrum, Pellworm and many Halligen as well as famous Sylt on its most Northern tip. Well known sea-side towns include Friedrichskoog, Buesum St Peter Ording and Husum. The small archipelago of Helgoland is located about 70 km off the coast of Cuxhaven.. On the Baltic side you find the island of Fehmarn. Well-know cities are Flensburg, Schleswig, Rendsburg, Kiel, Luebeck. If you are a Heavy-Metal Fan you might have heard of a little town named Wacken. Every Year this little town just north of Itzehoe or about an hour drive north of Hamburg hosts the largest heavy metal Open Air Concert in the world.
